RESUMO
We report on our experience comprised of 21 kidney transplant procedures (20 from cadavers and 1 from a living donor) performed at the Urology Department of our hospital. Of these, 11 remained functional 2 years following transplantation. Of the 10 transplants that failed, 3 were due to arterial thrombosis, 1 from venous thrombosis, 2 from late rejection, 1 from septic necrosis of the vascular suture area, and 1 because the arterial intima had been "swept away" by transluminal dilatation. We underscore the high incidence (33%) of arterial hypertension in these children submitted to renal transplantation and the good response to treatment with hypertensive agents and/or transluminal dilatation. We emphasize the usefulness of duplex-Doppler ultrasonography in evaluating arterial blood flow and in the diagnosis of arterial stenoses. The surgical techniques, complications, and evolution of transplanted kidney function are discussed.

The usefulness of echography in the diagnosis and tracing down of an intestinal intussusception is discussed. An abdominal ecograph was done in 29 children with suspected intestinal intussusception. In 31 cases (63%) the diagnosis was confirmed by the typical "target" image. In 17 cases (34%) the picture of intussusception was not detected, all children evolved favourably except for one case which, upon revision of the ecograph, showed the "target" picture not properly interpreted in the first place. We find the abdominal ecograph a useful means for diagnosis of intestinal intussusception. We present the diagnostic-therapeutic routine in our centre in cases of possible intestinal intussusception.

An extracranial arteriovenous fistula case, placed in vertebral artery territory that dealt with congestive heart failure and which developed advantageously without a surgical treatment is shown. Authors emphasize the fact of being a rarity the so premature beginning of the signs in a arteriovenous communication at that level, results in Doppler duplex echography and the need to have in count this entity previous to congestive heart failure with a deep origin in neonatal period.

A 3-year-old girl with Wilms' tumor developed pulmonary metastases 5 months after diagnosis. All but one of the visible lesions disappeared after thoracic irradiation and multiple-agent chemotherapy. Subsequent thoracotomy revealed 17 small nodules in addition to the visible lesion, and all of them proved to be fibromas. It would appear that the Wilms' tumor metastases to the lung were made to mature to benign neoplastic processes after the treatments given.

The case of two brothers with thoracic asphyxiant dystrophy, associated with cystic renal dysplasia in one of them, is reported. Differential diagnosis with other chondrodystrophies, specially with the Ellis van Creveld Syndrome is made, and the influence of the nephropathy on the vital prognosis of the affection is pointed out. The photographs show the characteristic and differential signs of this entity.
